Olivia & Milton

The wedding day for this beautiful couple was filled with love and romance. The full length, ornate mirror, the long windows, the dressing vanity with perfect lighting, and the timeless couch were features of the Bridal suite that made for amazing captures in a relaxed setting as the Bride and Bridesmaids prepared to walk down the aisle. Family and friends filled the chapel for the ceremony and emotions were full as these two exchanged vows, rings and kissed for the first time as husband and wife. Afterwards, everyone gathered at Center Stage for dinner, toast, and to dance the night away in elegance. Center Stage is a treasure with beautiful interior and excellent accommodations giving this wedding day a story book feel. The bubble exit was a perfect send off for the newly weds! Congratulations Olivia & Milton! We loved your day!

Anastasia and Jeremiah

A view of a wedding day is a story that unfolds gradually, steadily and differently for each couple. That's the beauty....individuality. No matter the common thread, the day is always unique and a beautiful reflection of the two becoming one.

This story unfolds at the Silo. The farm house where the Bridal party gathered in preparation is stylish and comfortable while still maintaining the charm of a country style home. The Bride and Groom repeated vows and exchanged rings in an outdoor ceremony followed by dinner and dancing in an elegant in door area. The couple took a moment to enjoy a beautiful sunset before rejoining their guest for more dancing.

Congratulations Anastasia and Jeremiah! Happy Anniversary!

Lost River Cave

There is a romantic eeriness about caves. Yes, something strange and frightening about going down into the earth surrounded by rock walls into natural halls that have been carved out over centuries by underground rivers. Formations of stalactites and stalagmites decorating the neutral interior create a natural Feng Shui as the path winds through this cavity in the earth. Yet, there exists a quiet, peacefulness that allows a place of refuge for awhile.

Kari and Nick chose Lost River Cave for their ceremony and reception. White chairs on the banks of the river, created an aisle for Kari's entrance. The wooded area provided a natural cathedral for this real life fairy tale.  After portraits, the couple made their grand entrance into the historic Cavern Nite Club, located in one of the largest cave entrance areas in the United States. The up-lighting on the cave walls added charm and elegance. When Nick took Kari into his arms for the first dance, there was magic in the air. It was obvious they were meant only for each other forever. After dinner and visiting with guests the couple moved to the cake table and put on bibs! There were lots of giggles and laughter as these two weren't afraid to get a little messy with the traditional 'feeding of the cake.' Then there was dancing! Congratulations Kari and Nick!!!

Maureen and Justin, Cathedral of the Incarnation and The Hutton Hotel - Nashville TN

Maureen and Justin are one of the most perfect couples, you could ever hope to meet. She is so sparkly and full of life and Justin is is her rock of quiet strength. Their wedding day began at perhaps the most beautiful place in Nashville to get married; The Cathedral of the Incarnation.

Their ceremony was a full-length mass, complete with multiple speakers and readings given by both the Priest and the families. The lighting was absolute perfection, as you can tell by the photos below. After the ceremony was over, the couple did a butterfly release on the front steps of the church. Afterwards, they were whisked away by a horse-drawn carriage, over to the Hutton Hotel for their reception.

The reception was gorgeous, complete with amber uplighting and a gorgeous lighted monogram. In the foyer area we also provided a Photo Booth, which was a hit with the guests. DJ Ed was the resident mixologist for this event, and he never fails to impress. We would like to thank Maureen and Justin for allowing us to provide photography, DJ/MC, Lighting and Photo Booth service for their wedding. We wish the happy couple all the very best.

Stephanie and Brad's wedding - Private residence, Bowling Green, KY

We recently had the pleasure of working with this delightful couple, Stephanie and Brad, for their "out in the country" wedding, just outside of Bowling Green KY. The location was a really cool location. An actual, working tobacco barn, complete with a corn field that surrounds it.

The day was quite stormy, which yielded some spectacular wide area shots. Just as the ceremony was about to begin, a huge rain storm set in. As they finished the ceremony, the rain abated, leaving a beautiful rainbow for everyone to enjoy.

We provided both photography and DJ for this event and DJ Rob worked his magic to create the perfect ambiance for this event. We would like to wish the happy couple all the best in their future together. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part.

Sheri and Scott's wedding at The Lighthouse, Hendersonville TN

This was such a fun wedding, with two of the most beautiful people you can ever hope to meet. The weather was absolute perfection for their outdoor wedding, lakeside. After exchanging vows, the couple and their guests moved upstairs for a delicious dinner which was prepared by the venue's expert staff. After dinner, everyone moved downstairs for the reception, where DJ Russ kept the dance floor full. The couple had a special "moonshine tasting" which was a huge hit.

One thing to be aware of though. There is a huge lake monster in Old Hickory and he (she?) decided to make an appearance during our portrait session. Beware the lake monster! (wink wink)

Loren and Josh, Cathedral of the Incarnation, Nashville, TN (wedding and reception)

We recently had the privilege of providing photography and DJ/MC for Loren and Josh's wedding, held at the Cathedral of the Incarnation.

The Cathedral is probably one of THE most beautiful ceremony spaces in the Nashville area. The stunning architecture and the soft, natural lighting make for a perfect setting for a couple to begin their lives together.

After the Ceremony was over, the couple moved over to the church's reception hall. DJ Russell pumped up the energy and kept everyone dancing, throughout the evening.

Caitlin and Jordan's wedding, Readyville, TN

Meet Caitlin and Jordan. Two ultra-sweet individuals who recently exchanged vows at The Corners on the River, in Readyville, TN. We were fortunate enough to be able to provide photography and DJ for their event.

The house at this property is historic, and simply gorgeous inside. The photos were beautiful and we couldn't have asked for better subjects. We had the chance to do their engagement photos, several months back, and they were stunning. The wedding certainly proved to be more of the same.

DJ Ed provided the evening's entertainment and he's the consummate professional, when it comes to mixology. The special dances were beautiful and the weather was simply perfect. Be sure and check out the sunset shot below. It was stunning.

Amber and Michael - Hermitage Golf Course

Meet Amber and Michael. We were honored to be a small part of their wedding recently at Hermitage Golf Course. It was in mid-June, and hot outside, but the weather was perfect for an outdoor wedding. The club was kind enough to lend us several carts and we did their first look, out near the lake in the center of the course. After pre-ceremony portraits, the ceremony was held on the old 9th green, next to the club-house pavilion. It was a gorgeous setting for an absolutely perfect wedding and we would like to wish the happy couple a lifetime of happiness together.

Altie and Ross - The City Winery

We just love these guys crazy. Meet Altie and Ross. We were honored to provide wedding photography, DJ, Lighting and Photo Booth service for the wedding. The ceremony was held in Goodlettsville, at the First Presbyterian Church. After the ceremony was finished we all headed downtown to The City Winery for their gorgeous reception.

This was The City Winery's first wedding reception, but you sure couldn't tell it. This venue is premium, and they handled everything with ease. Congratulations to the lucky couple. Thanks for letting us be a small part of your special day.

CHEEKWOOD BOTANICAL GARDENS - ALLEN & PATRICIA

Love is for the young at heart and these two definitely fit that description. Meet Allen and Patricia. We recently had the privilege of photographing their wedding, held at Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville. We began the day at the historic mansion on the property. This place is an absolutely stunning setting to capture the elegance of our lucky couple. From the spectacular views of the veranda, to the majestic staircase and piano rooms, this is a venue like no other in the Nashville area.

After finishing family portraits, we moved outside to the Burr Terrace garden for the Ceremony. The day was absolutely perfect, with the most gorgeous clouds you can imagine. The ceremony was officiated by Patricia's sister. After the ceremony, everyone moved over to The Pineapple Room for an elegant dinner, which was prepared by the excellent Cheekwood staff.

Please join us in congratulating this lucky couple.

MAUREEN AND JUSTIN, ENGAGEMENT SESSION

We are absolutely in love with these photos. We started this session off in Gallatin at Lock 4 Park. They have the cutest little dog, who instantly became the star of our shoot. The double-seater bicycle was also a nice touch. Great idea, guys. This park also has a very special significance. It was where Justin got down on one knee and proposed to the love of his life. After our fun at the park, we headed to downtown Nashville to the Shelby Street bridge for more of an urban feel. The lighting was absolutely perfect and we were so pleased with the results.

Please join us in congratulating such a beautiful couple on their up-coming marriage.

Emily and Kenneth's Wedding (Scarritt-Bennett and Musician's Hall of Fame)

These guys were just too much fun. Meet Emily and Kenneth. We were honored to provide Photography, DJ, Photo Booth and Lighting for their wedding day. We started the day out at Scarritt-Bennett, one of Nashville's most premium wedding venues. After spending some intimate time, getting ready, they had their first look in the main sanctuary. The grandeur of this hall is stunning, and certainly made for a gorgeous back-drop for their "First Look".

After the ceremony, the couple move everyone over to the Musician's Hall of Fame for their off-the-hook reception. DJ Ed was our spin-meister and kept the floor jumping all night long. We would like to thank the couple for allowing us to be a part, and we wish them both all the happiness in the world.

Emily and Cody's wedding - Embassy Suites Hotel, Franklin TN

Client: Emily and Cody
Venue: Embassy Suites Hotel, Franklin, TN
Service(s) used: Photography (dual photographers), DJ/MC, Lighting

Meet Emily and Cody. They are a beautiful couple that chose to make theirs a forever kind of love by tying the knot. Their venue of choice was the Embassy Suites Hotel in Coolsprings (Franklin). This is a gorgeous hotel, complete with a huge atrium area and dazzling fountains. Getting ready shots were done in the bridal suite while we took the guys outside for their own portrait session.

The hotel ballroom was utilized for both the ceremony and reception and I'd like to compliment the hotel staff for being so easy to work with on turning the room. With their help, we were able to stage the family portraits easily and efficiently. As the night progressed, the wedding guests had a wonderful time on the dance floor and we were lucky enough to catch several really great, romantic moments with our lucky couple.

We would like to thank the couple of allowing us to be a small part of their special day. We wish them all the happiness in the world.

Making the most of your Uplighting

The best events are always well-lit events and uplighting has gotten to be one of the top "must have" items on every discerning Bride's list. In this blog, I'd like to take a moment to go over some lighting basics, and help you to understand how to strike the perfect balance on your lighting and to get the absolute most "bang for your buck" possible. Perimeter Uplighting Colors

Color choice is key to making any lighting work and it also displays your personality, perhaps more than any other decor decision. In choosing a lighting color (or colors), we often see one of the most common mistakes; using a color that is too sub-dued. When used correctly, uplighting should make your room "come alive" and we always tend to lean towards more vivid colors. First, a vivid color is more eye-catching to your guests and it can't be stressed enough how important it is to overwhelm your guests' senses. This first impression is absolutely key in setting the proper tone and ambiance for your event. Second, vivid colors work to increase the depth-of-field for your photography and videography.

In selecting a color(s), we generally recommend the following: Magenta (bright purple), Royal Blue, or Amber (yellow-white, with just a hint of orange), Pink (for the girly-girl in you) or Red (especially for the holiday season). Keep in mind, it's not a necessity to try and match your table colors exactly, especially when using something like Silver or Gray. Go for a lighting color that works WITH your table colors. It's also highly-advisable to stay away from darkness-based colors (maroon, dark-blue, hunter-green, etc.). These colors are based on an absence of light (darkness), which means your fixtures will be putting out less light, not more.

Ambient Ties it Together

Before we talk about how to properly handle ambient lighting, let me give you an example of what NOT to do. This is an example from a wedding where we provided DJ service. Another lighting company did the lighting (they shall remain name-less) and they made the classic mistake of too much color and almost zero ambient:

Image
Image

As you can see, the room was simply too dark and the colors were over-whelming. The overall effect was almost a blacklight kind of look and, in my humble opinion, it detracted from the event more than it helped. On the opposite, here's an example where there's a much better use of ambient, striking a much-improved balance between ambient and perimeter lights:

Image
Image

A great lighting job takes more than just colored, perimeter uplights. It also requires a good blend of ambient light, usually in the center of the room, as well. The absolute first rule of good ambient is "NO fluorescent lights, ever". These can be traditional, stick-type bulbs or CFL bulbs installed into recessed fixtures (a lot of hotels are doing this these days). If your venue has fluorescent lighting fixtures, you need to plan on installing your own incandescent lighting. This can be traditional par cans bounced against a celing (for diffusion), leko lights (these can do nice gobo patterns) also bounced against the ceiling,

Image
Image

(Here's an example leko install for a church concert)

or Italian String Lighting. On ISL, make sure you're using commercial-grade stringers with incandescent bulbs in them. These usually are 15-watt bulbs at either 18-24 inch spacing. Here's an example:

Image
Image

Christmas lights and little 7-watt (1-foot spacing) bulbs just don't give the same effect. It's also highly advisable to make sure that whatever ambient lighting you use, it can be dimmed. For our events, we generally have ambient at 50% brightness for the guests' arrival (to maximize uplighting effect), then push it to 75% for dinner (so they can see to eat), then finally we'll dim it down to 30% for the dance portion.

Installation Tips

If you're using perimeter uplighting at your event, make sure you discuss table placement with your venue or planner (whoever is responsible for the floor diagram) that you are doing perimeter lighting. The biggest problem we run into is when the venue doesn't know about uplighting and they push tables, right up against the wall. This often ends up with guest chairs that are bumping into lighting fixtures, which are sitting on the floor and shining up. End result, fixtures get bumped and the nice, uniform wall color patterns get broken up. We recommend at least 36" spacing between wall and table, to allow the fixtures to be placed without having them knocked over by guests.

In addition to guest table placement, also be aware of wall table placement. Many times, rectangular tables are placed against the wall for buffets, candy tables, gift tables, etc. If you stack these tables end-to-end, it can cause a break in the color patterns. For best results, we usually recommend no more than a single 8-foot table without having a spacer.

Jordan and Andree's Reception (9-14-2013) at Liberty Park, Clarksville

Client: Jordan & AndreeDate: September 14th, 2013 Venue:Liberty Park – Clarksville, TN Service Provided: DJ, Emcee, Live-Pics, Texting, Uplighting, Monogram (Diamond Pkg) Photo Album: Jordan and Andree

Meet Jordan & Andree. Two of the nicest people you'd ever have the pleasure of meeting.

This was our first time to do an event at Liberty Park in Clarksville and what a gorgeous facility this is. Three of the walls are glass and overlook the rest of the park, complete with some of the nicest scenery you can imagine. With the reception beginning during the day, lighting was completely by sunlight.

Given this was our first time at this venue, we had a special challenge in that we had to "fly blind" on the lighting. The other challenge was that the walls were a fairly dark color, which makes it even harder to color match, much less to do it in full sunlight. However, Matthew was certainly up to the challenge and nailed a gorgeous color that we used around the building's perimeter.

For the dance floor, we used 2 Leko lights (theater lighting) to spray gobo patterns onto the dance floor. In the center, we placed the couple's monogram. The results were very good.

As the evening progressed, the dance floor heated up with our couple and guests dancing the night away to a lot of "old school" material. By the end of the evening we also had another special treat. As it turns out, we're also booked to do Lindsey's wedding in March, 2014. Both Lindsey and her fiance were in the bridal party for Jordan and Andree's wedding.

We'd like to say a huge "Thank You!" to both Jordan and Andree, for allowing us to be a part of your very special day. We wish you both many happy years together and wish you all the best.

Liz & Ryan's Wedding (8-10-2013) Cathedral of the Incarnation

Client: Liz & RyanDate: August 10th, 2013 Venue: Cathedral of the Incarnation – Nashville, TN Service Provided: DJ, Emcee, Live-Pics, Texting, Uplighting, Monogram (Diamond Pkg) Photo Album: Liz & Ryan

What a wonderful couple! Meet Liz & Ryan as they get down with some of their friends.

They are an absolutely delightful couple and they certainly did a great job on putting together a stellar event. Their event was held at the Nashville Cathedral of the Incarnation, right down by Vanderbilt. This is a choice venue and we always love working there.

For lighting, Liz asked for a "peachy but not too pink". The Cathedral has these lovely old (and yellow) stained glass windows, which change the tint a bit while sunlight is still streaming. Over the head table, we placed a large monogram of their last name and date. It seemed to be a hit with a lot of folks.

The evening was filled with a lot of fun, dancing and elegance and finished off with one of the sweetest final dances I can remember.
