This week, I got to DJ Kyra's Sweet 16 party! Here's a pic of me with the birthday girl and her parents.
What a great group of kids. It was held over at the Hampton Inn, in Gallatin, TN. For those who aren't familiar with it, the meeting rooms at the Hampton are great. The staff is friendly, they have a removable dance floor and the conference room is tastefully decorated. The facility is arranged in partitions so room size can be set to accomodate groups of 50 to 200 or more and there's a good load-in ramp, right at the conference area. I highly recommend this venue.
The room decorations were great, especially the very large glass candy jars that were used as centerpieces. After getting there, I spoke with Kyra's mom about how I should setup and offered some extra up-lighting. She loved it and I have to admit, it works well in that room (the walls are beige and take color very well). After I got things in place, we dimmed the lights down, just in time for the first guests to arrive.
It's always fun for me to see kids in this setting. They were a bit shy at first but as soon as I cranked a few dance pieces and fired up the dance lighting, they didn't even need prompting. They hit the dance floor and showed some serious moves.
A bit later in the evening, Kyra's dad came up and said he'd like to do some dance contests. First up, came the limbo contest. Here's the birthday girl in action:
A bit later, we followed it up with a "Moonwalk Contest", "Girl/Boy Dance-off", and a few others. I have to say, this group was exceptionally fun. I'm just glad they let me be a part of it.
